LOCATION
Tanzania is bordered on the east by the Indian Ocean and on the west by a succession of big lakes (Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa). The coast is fringed by coral reefs with large islands located about fifty miles from the continent (Mafia, Zanzibar and Pemba). In the narrow coastal plain succeeds an immense plateau, from 1000 to 1400 metres altitude. The north of the country, near the equator, has very high peaks as Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa (5895 meters). The climate is humid on the coast and islands, hot and dry in the central plateau, and more tempered in the mountains.
